What does your job involve?

As with most jobs at sea, every day can be very different – but mostly, we’re at our desk answering guests queries about their loyalty points and cruise history, or generating quotes and taking bookings for future cruises. We also host several loyalty events on every cruise, including Peninsular Club lunches and cocktail parties, and Priority lounges and events. Due to the number of guests invited, organising these events can feel like planning a wedding! But it’s always worth it when guests tell us how much they enjoyed the event, how special they felt meeting the officers and how they appreciate the hard work we do.


What’s the best thing about being in the P&O Cruises Peninsular Club?

That the more you cruise with us, the more you’re rewarded. It’s the little things that can really make a holiday – a glass of Champagne as you sail away, or a luxurious pair of slippers waiting for you in your room. Peninsular Club guests also get a chance to meet some of the crew members who you don’t often see around the ship, such as the engineers and the bridge team.


You worked at P&O Cruises previously. Why did you come back?

There’s nothing like working at sea, and I really missed the excitement of being on board and waking up in a different port of call every other day. I was green with envy every time I logged onto social media and saw my friends in exotic locations.


What do you enjoy about cruise life?

Personally, I’d find a 9-5 job monotonous. Working on cruise ships means I can have a job I know, but work with lots of different people in lots of different ports and places, which keeps things interesting and fun.


Is there something you can tell us about cruise life that first-time guests might find surprising?

Simply how much there is to do on board. The days just fly by and guests often say at the end of the cruise that they thought they might be bored, but actually haven’t stopped. From the enormous variety of dining areas, to Britannia’s Cookery Club and the Strictly Come Dancing themed cruises, there really is something for everyone.


What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you on board?

Last year, when everyone in the UK was raising awareness for the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) association by uploading ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ videos, we managed to do some ourselves on board. We even drenched the Captain! Everyone was such a good sport about it, and it was hilarious to watch so many people getting involved in such a great cause.


Which is your favourite cruise destination?

On the Arcadia 2015 Full World Cruise this year, I was escorting a tour in Lahaina, Hawaii and finally saw whales – in fact, I saw hundreds of them. It was an amazing experience and now Lahaina is my favourite port of call.


What does it mean to you to work for such an iconic brand?

I’m very proud to work for a brand that has such an amazing heritage. P&O Cruises’ roots in history are incredible and I’m honoured to be a part of making future holidays possible.
