Whitewall Galleries launches the 20th Century Masters collection

Fancy owning a Dali, Picasso, Hockney or Chagall? You’ll have your chance to acquire an authenticated etching or lithograph on board P&O Cruises ships when Whitewall Galleries debuts the 20th Century Masters collection

Whitewall Galleries at sea is thrilled to announce a hugely exciting new addition to its art programme: a collection of highly sought-after lithographs and etchings from some of the 20th century’s most revered masters including Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, David Hockney and Marc Chagall.

This extraordinary collection will sit alongside the gallery’s recognised portfolio of contemporary masters, providing a whole new layer of collectible art on board. These fully authenticated pieces of history will be showcased on Arcadia, Aurora, Azura, Britannia, Oceana and Ventura, depending on availability.

‘We’re really excited to be launching this new collection of work by some of the most iconic and collectible artists of the 20th century for the very first time on board P&O Cruises,’ says Ryann Shear, Whitewall Galleries’ maritime area manager. ‘This is a remarkable opportunity for guests to delve into the history and inspirations of some of the most influential masters of the 20th century, as well as potentially acquire the perfect memento of their time on board.’

The four artists have never been shown on board the fleet, and as the gallery has secured a finite number of works, it’s likely they won’t be there forever.

To showcase this remarkable collection, Whitewall Galleries will be organising a series of seminars and events built around the artists, all of whom are fascinating characters who between them have created some of the most iconic images in the art world.

About the artists

Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí is one of the most prominent members of the Surrealist movement and one of the most iconic artists of all time. While his originals now fetch well into the millions, his lithograph prints and etchings are proving popular acquisitions for art fans as well as investors.

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the last century, painted in an unprecedented variety of styles. Many of his instantly recognisable masterpieces adorn the walls of galleries and museums across the world, and his lithograph prints and etchings are valuable collector’s items.

David Hockney

British artist David Hockney’s work is highly sought after across the globe, and his contribution to Pop Art has made him one of Britain’s most influential and important 20th-century artists. His sell-out exhibitions make headlines at the Royal Academy of Arts or Tate Britain, but he has made a splash all over the world – A Bigger Grand Canyon, for instance, is now hanging in the National Gallery of Australia. Often humorous and sometimes provocative, Hockney’s prints are both collectible and instantly recognisable.

Marc Chagall

Picasso himself once said: ‘When Matisse dies, Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is.’ Internationally referred to as a pioneer of Modernism, Russian-born artist Marc Chagall represented much of what the movement sought to impart. His stunning lithograph prints are now eminently collectible and sell for large sums across the world.

The 20th Century Masters collection will be on board ArcadiaAuroraAzuraBritanniaOceana and Ventura from September 2018.
