About Naples

Cruising into the Bay of Naples is a memorable experience. The Naples port is overlooked by the imposing Sant Elmo medieval castle, high up on Vemero Hill, as well as the 13th century Castel Nuovo, which is right next to the Naples cruise terminal in the heart of the city.

Within a short walk, to the left of the terminal, are three of Naples best-known landmarks:  Castel Nuovo, the 17th century Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale), and the elaborate 18th century San Carlo Opera House. To reach Naples' fascinating old town, go straight past Castel Nuovo and then over the Piazza Municipio.

The cities archaeological museum majors on Pompeii and Herculaneum, the two extraordinary sites that draw most first-time visitors to Naples. The city is also a convenient base for tours to the nearby swish cliff-top resort of Sorrento and the even swishier island of Capri.

Sorrento and Amalfi Coast

Activity mediumMeal includedShopping

Duration: 9 hours

Visit the charming towns of Sorrento and Amalfi, enjoy stunning coastal scenery and a relaxed resort atmosphere.

Enjoy a leisurely drive along the Amalfi Coast, the most famous drive in all of Italy, described by John Steinbeck as ‘a dream place that isn’t quite real’.

With luxuriant vegetation and a sun-drenched climate, Sorrento became a favourite retreat of wealthy Romans and has been a popular resort ever since. A cliff-top setting, imposing ‘Duomo’ and charming streets with bustling boutiques, make the little town of Sorrento a delight to discover.

Whilst in Sorrento, you’ll enjoy an Italian style light lunch accompanied by wine.

Further along the coast, you’ll find the romantic coastal town of Amalfi. Take a guided walk to learn of the history and architecture of this quaint town. See the exterior of the Cathedral of St Andrea and admire the Moorish and Gothic architecture.

During your stop in Amalfi, you’ll have free time to wander the narrow streets, or perhaps relax with a coffee or ice-cream in the ‘piazza’ and absorb the wonderful atmosphere.

Your return journey will be along the mountain road before taking the motorway to Naples.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. Please note that there are a few steps to negotiate at the lunch venue, and the streets of Amalfi are cobbled and inclined. Flat, comfortable shoes are advisable. In the event that parking in Amalfi town is restricted, a visit to the town of Maiori, Minori or Vietri sul Mare will be made instead. Passengers are advised that the Amalfi drive is along cliff edges and includes hairpin bends. This tour is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo.
