Celebrations ahoy for The Queen’s 90th birthday

A royal party to remember

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926, but it has long been the tradition to celebrate her official birthday in the summer. This year, Her Majesty’s 90th birthday weekend celebrations will come to a glorious finale on Sunday 12 June. Here’s how this momentous occasion will be marked.

The ultimate street party

On Sunday 12 June, The Queen will host a street party in London with 10,000 guests, known as The Patron’s Lunch – a celebration of her patronage of more than 600 organisations in the UK. The Mall will be lined with picnic tables for the street party during which guests will enjoy a hamper-style lunch.

A carnival parade will also take place down The Mall and along Birdcage Walk to bring the nation together in a riot of colour, music and dance. Giant screens will also show the birthday festivities live in St James’s Park and Green Park.

Festive fun at sea

The P&O Cruises fleet will be celebrating in British style with our own take on the street party. For ships at sea, parties will take place on deck with a Great British BBQ. Think Pimm’s, cake, bunting, Royal and British-themed quizzes, the Best of British dinner menus, British-themed buffets with recommended British wines and a host of birthday-themed activities and crafts for the little ones.

To mark the occasion, we’ve even created a special cocktail in Her Majesty’s honour, featuring a few of The Queen’s favourite ingredients. The Royal Toast will be served on board – and you can also try it at home with our secret recipe below.

Extra-special Sail Aways

Arcadia, Aurora, Azura and Britannia will be in port on the day and will be hosting special birthday Sail Aways. The extended on-board street party will get in full swing for three hours of fun, entertainment and the best of British food and drink, with party snacks such as mini scampi and chips in paper cones, Cornish pasties, Scotch eggs, Eton mess meringues and sherry trifle tarts.

Celebrate at home

If you’re having your own street party or celebrating with friends and family in the garden, try making our special cocktail, The Royal Toast, to get the party started.
