About Bequia

The phrase 'secret escape' is overused - but the friendly S-shaped island of Bequia is so unspoilt it is surely befitting. Measuring just seven square miles and with a population of 5,000, its mountainous landscape makes it a challenge to get around, but it's worth the effort. For the best views, climb bumpy lanes past brightly coloured wooden shacks to the top of Mount Pleasant.

Below is Admiralty Bay - one of the Caribbean's most protected natural harbours, surrounded by lush steep hills. The island's capital, Port Elizabeth, wraps around the back of the bay. Here you'll witness the ancient craft of boat building. But it's the models in the model boat shops - expertly rigged and authentic in every detail - which truly astonish and delight.
